White screen upon startup + question mark folder

Any time i try to turn on my macbook pro all i get is a white screen and after about a minute or two a folder icon with a question mark on it pops up. This started happening after i punched the keyboard a few times after getting frustrated with the mac constantly disconnecting from the internet anytime i tried to talk to someone on skype. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi Goudeyy,

If you are still getting this question mark on a folder when you start the computer, if this were me I would use the the following article to help troubleshoot the issue or determine what might be the cause here:

A flashing question mark or globe appears when you start your Mac

I tried what was listed but i can't even get the startup manager to show up. When i start the computer and hold down the option key all that pops up is a list of wifi connections i can join and a globe that says "start internet recovery". If i choose that it just sits there spinning forever and doesn't accomplish anything. Are there any alternatives to getting the startup manager to show up?

Thanks for the update. While there is not an alternative to it, but you should next reset your SMC and your PRAM and try again in that order. If that works then it should get you going again:

How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac

If that doesn't work then you may need service on your machine.

Hi. If using internet recovery and you have a router you go through,. You would need to use the internet recovery list that has the same protocol as your router.WPA-WPA2 etc. Or if just though a modem the same protocol as your airport is set for. Most of the people here say when using internet recovery it's best to use ethernet.
