Old Mac and want to update- help

I have an old Macbook 32 bit Snow Leopard. It works well, except I can't update Safari, the OSX, and several frequently used sites. Is there a way to update/upgrade without buying a new laptop?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
