I too am having the same problem and don't think it's "normal". I understand that heavy usage heats up the chip and the battery. However, I've had quite a few iPhones by now (1, 2, 3, 4S, 5S and now 6). This phone is getting way hotter than any of the earlier versions. Occasionally the auto-brightness will change to dim setting. It'll do it even when the auto-brightness is turned off?!

So I'm guessing it's the phone "protecting itself" from overheating? Took it to an Apple Store and they were scratching their heads, weren't sure what was going on? Said all the tests came out good and it shouldn't be happening? Well, it is but primarily when I play games or watch videos.

Ps. As far as the other guy missing sarcasm in an earlier reply - I too missed it.

Lot of people, like myself are "sarcastically challenged". LOL

Then there's always the risk of running into a linguistic barrier if the person inquiring uses a different language as his/her native tongue.

Here's an online definition I found:

"- Sarcasm is sometimes explained as hostility disguised as humor. The origin of the word sarcasm derives from the Greek word “sarkazein” which literally means “to tear or strip the flesh off.” Hence, it’s no wonder that sarcasm is often preceded by the word “cutting” and that it's often misunderstood."

In plain English - many, definitely not all, but many sarcastic people are real jerks who simply enjoy feeling superior to others. 😉

I did go to the Apple Store, they ran several tests on my phone and said it passed. Couldn't explain why it was getting hot, although "very warm" is probably a better term. They said I have another 5 months worth of warranty and offered to replace it. I decided to hold off for now since switching is such a pain, especially for those of us who're always "on call". Also, I saw several message boards where people complained about this issue and figured a new phone would probably have the same problem? I'm hoping iPhone 6S comes out in the next 5 months, if not I'll probably end up replacing this phone before the warranty expires..

hello there the problem got solved with few updates from apple and the trick I had used that helps me to play high end games without end up heating the phone. Before you play these games try to turn off - location, background app refresh and internet connection if not required for the game. Problem solved doing these rhings. It never warm up again
