I too am having the same problem and don't think it's "normal". I understand that heavy usage heats up the chip and the battery. However, I've had quite a few iPhones by now (1, 2, 3, 4S, 5S and now 6). This phone is getting way hotter than any of the earlier versions. Occasionally the auto-brightness will change to dim setting. It'll do it even when the auto-brightness is turned off?!
So I'm guessing it's the phone "protecting itself" from overheating? Took it to an Apple Store and they were scratching their heads, weren't sure what was going on? Said all the tests came out good and it shouldn't be happening? Well, it is but primarily when I play games or watch videos.

Ps. As far as the other guy missing sarcasm in an earlier reply - I too missed it.
Lot of people, like myself are "sarcastically challenged". LOL
Then there's always the risk of running into a linguistic barrier if the person inquiring uses a different language as his/her native tongue.
Here's an online definition I found:
"- Sarcasm is sometimes explained as hostility disguised as humor. The origin of the word sarcasm derives from the Greek word “sarkazein” which literally means “to tear or strip the flesh off.” Hence, it’s no wonder that sarcasm is often preceded by the word “cutting” and that it's often misunderstood."
In plain English - many, definitely not all, but many sarcastic people are real jerks who simply enjoy feeling superior to others. 😉
