I cracked it, having deleted the applications folder in a fit of rage. Here's how to get rid of all the Nielsen shi*e:

My email to them:

Hello,

like countless other Mac owners, I am frustrated and offended by the presence of your software on my Mac. I didn't put it on my laptop, so your company has trespassed on my property. Your instructions for removal are useless. I have no folder called 'Nielsen' in my applications. It was the first thing I deleted. Still I get pop up messages asking me to trust the software, still I have your crap in my sound preferences.

I would be hugely grateful if you would send me the easiest and most effective way of getting rid of this annoying *****.

Thank you.

Thank you for contacting NetRatings Australia.

The Nielsen folder that was sitting in you Applications menu contained a file called 'Uninstall' that needs to be run to remove the software from your computer. Unfortunately if you have deleted the folder then you will need to reinstall the application in order to retrieve the files necessary for a full uninstallation.

As we do not have a record of you in our Australian database, we have set up a dummy account that you can use to log in and obtain another copy of the software:

Once you have logged in please select the option to 're-install'. Download and run the installer. Once the installation is complete the Nielsen folder should reappear in your Applications folder. Open the Nielsen folder and run the 'Uninstall' file. Shortly after the uninstall process has run you may be prompted to restart your computer.

I am now Nielsen-free.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I've had this horrible software hidden on my machine for 2 years... I use an uninstaller software that removed their official uninstaller. Then once a week it would prompt me to install the safari extension and always force itself to be my sound output! I tried to reinstall their software to get the uninstaller back but my account stopped working... After contacting their support, they raised a ticket for me and didn't reply for 10 months!

Sooo grateful for you're suggestion to remove the files in Library/extensions! Although I couldn't get any search results for netsight but hopefully that's a good thing!

Do a backup.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Sounds and see if it is there.

If you wish to remove Nielson digital audio from you computer you should do the following:

In systems/library/extensions search from Nielsen you will find at least two files they end in kext delete those. Then do a search for "netsight" there are several files associated with it delete them all.

I had to log into the Nielsen account to see this information below. Note I had already deleted the app files on my mac so I simply did a search within my library and found all of the files associated with this awful software.

Finally restart your computer there should be no trace of the Nielsen app on your computer any longer.

Good Luck this worked for me I hope it works for you too!
