How do you select multiple photos in iCloud?

I am trying to select multiple photos in iCloud without having to click on each photo individually. Is there a way to do so?

Hello Tiggertiffany,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If you need to select multiple items on iCloud.com then you can use the common procedure to select multiple items by either holding Command or Shift on your keyboard.

To select multiple files or folders, hold down the Command (⌘) key, then click the items.

To select multiple files or folders that are listed together, click the first item you want to select, hold down the Shift key, then click the last item.

Thanks Gail, yes the Alt key does allow 1 picture at a time, I believe it used to be the control key did that function. I saw a post that brought up the alt key and it worked for me, still would like to be able to select multiple pics though easier than my noted work around.

Apple actually once contacted me through this forum concerning a WiFi issue that came and went.

They don’t really respond too well through their customer service either way, it’s more about venting, take care

Well, they don't respond to feedback at all, but they do read it. And, changes have been made in the past as a result of that feedback. I know this has been a major problem for many people, so hopefully the feedback on this has been enough to at least make Apple pay attention.

It's a bit baffling why it has not been changed. And when even one of our resident photo experts indicates that they are bemused about this state of affairs, it does make you wonder what the problem is.

At this point, all we can do is wait, send in feedback, and hope that a change will be forthcoming.

Best,

I always get a chuckle out of people critiquing others for responding to, “old posts.” As if the very purpose of a message board is NOT to retain knowledge, for others to later RESPOND TO. The posts (try and really feel the meaning of that word) stay posted for a reason.

...and it’s not even the sentiment that I laugh at. It’s the vitriol - as if you had snapped their grandmothers bra - that is behind it. Good times.

Apparently you have no understanding about the dynamic nature of software and how it changes as it is developed. Three years ago, the post you are so insulted by, DID work. It doesn't now. So, unless you have no issue looking silly responding to a moot post, then be my guest. It's your time wasted, not ours.

If you want to get the most out of a thread, I would suggest you pay attention to the date of the posts, take into consideration whether iOS upgrades, newer hardware, software patches, user discoveries, or simply an acquisition of better knowledge as to how things work, might make the ultimate current, applicable answer more relevant. Especially when a post is over 3 years old and 29 pages long. That's always a good clue that you would be best off by starting with the last two or three pages of the thread only.

Hopefully you will find a more productive way to interact with the posters here is you follow these simple, common-sense, suggestions.

Still have to select one by one but better than nothing. Very dumb, why would it be that way?

Perhaps is intentional.

While we still could select thousands of photos at once by selecting a range with the Shift key, it has been fatal to have the Safari preference "Open safe files after downloading" enabled. This could result in the system being bogged down by thousands of open Preview windows for the downloaded image files that would automatically open. At least, that will no longer happen, because we will get tired of clicking files for downloading one by one.

iCloud Photo Library would have to be turned on on the device (Settings>your name>iCloud>Photos>iCloud Photo Library.

If it is turned on, then you would go to the All Photos album, and you would delete them from there. That would move them to the Recently Deleted folder on both your device and on iCloud. Remember, the iCloud deletion isn't going to happen instantaneously. It takes time for updates to stream between the iCloud server and your device. A lot of it depends on both line speed and traffic on the line at the time the operation is taking place. It could take several days to see the final effects of the action.

May 2018, I have this question also, just learning I have to download each photo individually, which is crap. I read about the ability to download an entire album, but it looks like I have to add each photo individually (?), which kinda ***** when you have dozens or even hundreds of pix.

So, after reading about using the Alt key to select multiple pix -one at a slow time- I did so and pressed download...for each photo selected I had to select "open or save", then a second screen to "save", basically an impossible situation for dozens of pix.
