Gmail down load problems

For the last 2 hours I have been unable to download emails from my Gmail account on my iOS devises, Iphone 4 and iPad . i just get the rotating round thing as when material is being downloaded but then nothing happens. I have no such problem on my laptop running Windows 7. Any info you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you
