HELP!!! 😮
I have a column of whole #'s...
I want at the bottom row to show the 'max # - the min #'.
This should be simple but I'm not getting it. Thanks for any help.

BTW, I tried
= (MAX (B2:B16) - (MIN (b2:b16))
I think I need something other than the ' - ' in the formula?
Hi Rand,
Formula in B17 (the formula must be located in a cell outside the range. It can not refer to itself).
=MAX(B2:B16)−MIN(B2:B16)
I'm not sure what is wrong with your formula = (MAX (B2:B16) - (MIN (b2:b16))
Unless it is the lower case b2:b16
Also, you don't need the outside brackets (parentheses).
Regards,
Ian.
Thanks Yellowbox (is that name a reference to the early days of OS X? 🙂 )
It turns out I had to convert the formula to text and edit it to the below formula to make it work... parenthesis needed.
(MAX(C2:C16)−(MIN(C2:C16)))
Hi Rand,
When I have trouble, I find it best to break the problem down into small steps.
Here is a table with one Header Row and 3 Footer Rows. The formulas in Footer Rows are "isolated" and can refer to all Body Cells in a Column.
Formula in Footer Cell B17
=MAX(B)
Formula in Footer Cell B18
=MIN(B)
Formula in Footer Cell B19
=B17−B18

Ian
P.S. When I registered a username with Apple Support Communities, there were too many Ians. So I chose Yellowbox = Yellow Box = common name for Eucalyptus melliodora = an attractive, stately tree native to my area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_melliodora
wired, I swear I got an error yesterday but today it accepted
=MAX(B2:B18)−MIN(B2:B18)
Thanks you 2 though!!!
