iPad air won't charge

iPad air will suddenly not charge says it does not recognise the connected device. Bought a new cable, know that the charger works as have used it on another IPad to make sure

Next thing to try is to clean out the Lightning port. Use a clean soft brush (a toothbrush will work) along with a wooden toothpick to extract any dust, lint, etc that may have gotten lodged inside. A magnifier and flashlight will help. The charging ports on devices are notorious for getting filled with dust & lint and hampering the internal electrical connection between the port and the cable.

I have tried that, but have now found a way around problem, attach cable and before it has time to tell me it doesn't support it power off, then it will charge whilst it's off. If I put the cable in when its off, it will turn itself on without pressing the power button and yet again tells me it doesn't like the cable. There is something wrong somewhere, maybe the next update may solve it as I notice there are many with the same problem!

Having the same problem myself. Ever since I have upgraded to 8.1.3 it refuses to charge via the lightening connector. I have tried several, but none work, yet bizvarely enough it WILL charge if I use my wife's older 30 pin charger for her iPhone 4 with an adaptor bought from the pound shop!! Will give your suggestion a try so fingers crossed, although it's a bit daft when a so called "upgrade" takes you several steps back!!!
