Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Is it possible for a Lion user to update Safari to 5.1.10?

An event that has prompted actuality of the subject is the upcoming Apple Media Event. On its web-page I read that to be able to watch it live it's necessary to have Safari 5.1.10. Now Lion 10.7.5 has had Safari 5.1.7 bundled with it, and every subsequent update was aimed at Snow Leopard users. Why it was arranged in such an illogical way is beyond my imagination but does it mean that the next version of Safari for me to update to would be version 6 and later? Frankly speaking I wouldn't like to, because I love both the look and features of Safari 5 (to the same degree that I dislike that of Safari 6 and later), but I'd like to know for sure. Additionally, would it be some alternatives to watching this event streaming live (on some other web-resource nor smth)?

All the best,

I.S.

According to this document you should have been able to update to Safari 5.1.10 ... but I agree, it is a touch vague. As you say 5.1.7 was bundled with Lion but it should have been capable accepting the security updates which took it to 5.1.10. And of course its later natural version now appears to be the 6.1 you don't like, but you should be able to update to it.

Have you checked your update file? Did you miss it?

Hi, seventy one, thank you for your response.

Yes, I tried via Software Update on my Mac but the thing is that it offers Safari 6.1.6 only. The last time I updated to Safari 6 (without examining preliminary what the update was look like) I was forced to reinstall Lion via Internet Recovery just to get my 5.1.7.

But the idea has just stroke my mind that you meant going to Apple Software Downloads and Updates? I once visited it and when clicking System Requirements of 5.1.8-10 it listed just Snow Leopard.

Well, I think the point of not being able to follow the media event would be better made as feedback ... but Lion is on the verge of being put out to grass (like Snow Leopard) so it is unlikely that anything will be done about this matter. The 6.1 update would almost certainly have contained the security features previously made available to Snow Leopard ... plus those aspects you don't like. Hobson's choice, I guess.

However, if you do send feedback, be aware that they rarely, if ever, respond, although they do assure us they read all that is sent.
