Is there any way that I can delete photos from my iPhone by using my Mac?

Is there any way that I can delete photos from my iPhone 4s by using iPhoto on my iMac (Mid 2011) using OS X Yosemite v10.10.2? It seems it would be much more convenient to use my iMac to delete the photos from my iPhone or iPad, but I can't figure out how to do it. Thanks for your consideration and help!
