Remotely Erasing an iPhone from iCloud

Hi Apple community,

Backstory:

Recently, my iPhone 6 was stolen. I can't remember for the life of me if "find my iPhone" was activated within the settings of my iPhone 6. I don't remember ever activating any iCloud features at all since I do not use the service or back any data to it.

However, immediately after the iPhone was stolen, I went to iCloud, and I was able to set up a pending remote delete to what I believe to be was my stolen iPhone 6. When I set the pending remote delete up, my iPhone 6 was considered "offline" within the iCloud user interface. It has since been "offline" for days since the theft occurred, according to the iCloud user interface.

Question:

Does this mean that I must have had "find my iPhone" turned on within the iPhone 6 before it was stolen? Is it even possible for me to have set up a pending erase if I had that "find my iPhone" turned off? I really do not think I had it on, which is why I am here. I would hate to have a pending erase set up that will never activate.

I hope my question is clear. If I can provide any more details, I would be glad to!

Thank you for responding!

And confirming that question for me.

The thief must have turned airplane mode or something on since the pending erase will not activate.

Thank you, again. If anyone else sees this thread and would like to chime in with relevant stories or information, please don't hesitate as it may help me and others a lot!

Or it is still in your house and the battery is dead. Or thief restored phone in recovery mode and sold for parts on ebay. Once restored while activation still has icloud lock, tracking is not available, cause phone does not have software to know that it is attached to your account to report location. Or someone found a way to bypass icloud activation after restore and somebody is using your phone somewhere in Pakistan or Korea. Or someone actually bought that phone and now contacting Apple to activate it with fake story that they forgot password and account.
