App download on imac is paused w/o resume button

I recently started an app download and in the middle of it's download it now says "waiting" and and when I go to the recent purchases page in the app store it says "An error has occurred". I cannot drag to the trash, I've tried deleting the file on my computer..it still just sits there saying "waiting".
