Yosemite VPN PPTP default gateway (send all traffic)

Hello,

I'm using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.2) and a VPN (PPTP) for connecting to my work's network.

In first view, all works as it should: I could connect to my files and E-Mails, but if I try to browse to the internet, I can't connect.

First I thought I checked the option "Send all traffic over VPN connection", but it is set to false.

Could you give me an advice, how to configure my VPN so only the "work-specific traffic" is send over the VPN?

Regards,

- Ben

There is an option in the Mac VPN client to 'send all traffic' over the VPN link which you say you have made sure is not enabled, however it is also possible to configure the VPN server to enforce this.

This is done on the VPN server by defining a route of 0.0.0.0 subnetmask 0.0.0.0 and type private. So if you make sure this is instead set to public it should not force this to happen.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the VPN server configuration, but I'll try to figure out, how the VPN server is configured.

But I don't think so, because if I connect on my VM (Windows 8.1) the VPN connection is established and the other traffic is routed to my gateway directly (not over the VPN).

I have used "route -v monitor" when starting the VPN connection and there where added some new routes, but none of them seems to be the reason for send all traffic over VPN.

Is there a better way to log the VPN connection on mac os x, to find out if the server settings are the reason for that?

Thanks!

HUZZAH!!! 😮🙂

I've had this problem since Yosemite released!

not a single one of my VPN, when connected, would let me browse the web at the same time.

worked fine before Yosemite, but since, if I ever used a VPN I could no longer browse the Internet.

I've had to use a second computer to look up answers about the remote issue I'm trying to work on.

Just put my VPN towards the top of the list under Ethernet & Wi-Fi (above all my other Services) and its working great!!!

Can now VPN to all the internal devices at the remote location and web browse to look up stuff while I'm working

THANK-YOU Alberto

🙂

ps: I've not got the SEND ALL TRAFFIC ticked, yet a whatismyip shows the remote IP address.

Not to worry, I've got web browsing back thats what I need!
