can't connect to wifi?

So I have a 32 gig 3rd gen ipod touch. I cannot connect to any Wi-Fi networks. My airplane mode is off, but the Wi-Fi button underneath it, where you choose your network, is grey and I can't click on it. All it says is "No Wi-Fi." Does anyone know what is wrong with it, and how to fix it? I'd prefer not to have to go to the apple store.

See:

iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim

One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.

Also heating sometimes works. See:

Why can't I select my wifi settings?

A trick that works frequently with iPhones:

Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON

Power down and wait 5-10 minutes

Power up

Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF

If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
