When trying to retrieve my emails on my iPad, the screen goes blank.... HELP

When trying to retrieve my emails on my iPad, the screen goes blank.... HELP
iPad 2, iOS 8.1.3
I was trying to help another person with the same issue yesterday & this morning my email did the same thing. For me, the app appears to open then immediately closes & I am left looking at my background wallpaper.
I was then able to get into my email by double tapping the home button, swiping up the dark translucent window (crashed email app) then reopening the email app .
The only two emails I have set up are iCloud & gmail. I have since been going through all my gmail folders, deleting unnecessary emails & emptying the trash.
So far, so good but not sure why this started happening. Did you try closing all apps & then reopening the email?

I Have the same issue. I have even tried deleting the both aol and icloud e mails, rebooting and reinstating them And still blank. It is only the incoming that does not work, the outgoing works fine as I can email out from iWorks etc, but cannot see responses. guess this is an issue with 8.1.3.
