Remove additional icloud mail accounts

My daughters each have an iPhone, and they've been using my apple ID in the app store and for their mail. Since I discovered the family sharing, I setup an icloud account for each of them, but when I go into settings, icloud, scroll to the bottom under advanced and click on mail, they have other icloud mail addresses, not the one I recently setup under family sharing. How can I delete these icloud mail accounts and set their phones up to use their new icloud account?

Ok, I did as you said and went to mail, made sure iCloud was the default account on every device, and then deleted the others. It looks like all the devices are synced with their own Apple ID now, but on the iCloud settings page, towards the bottom under advanced mail settings, all of those iCloud mail addresses are still listed under Allow Sending From, but they're just not selected. Only their iCloud account setup under Family Sharing is enabled. One other thing, under settings for Facetime, it lists where you can be reached, and their phone number is listed along with my Apple ID. Should their Apple ID be listed here? I assume my Apple ID needs to be listed under iTunes and App Store settings so they can purchase things, right? Or should they be signed into everything using their Apple ID? One feature that I thought looked convenient, under Facetime settings, it has an option for iPhone Cellular Calls on an iPod and iPad, so I guess they could use these to Facetime with, but if I try to enable it, it says Facetime and iCloud must be signed in using the same Apple ID.

Hi, Sorry i just got home.

Yes for FaceTime since its their devices, their phone numbers are suppose to be linked to FaceTime and iMessages. So but listen, if you link your email, when they receive a FaceTime, it will also ring on your phone. FaceTime can be reached in two ways (phone number and email). If the phone number is unreachable they can also be reached via the email. So i would advice you unlink your email and add theirs instead. Same goes for the iMessage as well. Because you will be receiving their messages and vice versa if you link your Apple ID to their iMessages. I don't think you want that. Lol

Yes, their Apple ID should be listed on FaceTime and iMessage. And you also need to login to iTunes & App store with your Apple ID on your device since you are the organizer of your family sharing. But on their devices, their accounts should be used. Do not link yours anymore. The only thing you link is the family sharing, to avoid issues.

Yes, you have to use same Apple ID on iTunes & App store, FaceTime, iMessage and iCloud.

They are not linked anything. Its just shows up because when they initially set up their FaceTime or iMessage it copies a list of emails that can be reached. And what happened again is, because those Apple ID's you all had created are connected via family sharing, it detects that those are possibly related individuals. I don't know if you understand my point here. But the family sharing has something to do with those emails showing up under Mail Advanced. The system understands that those Apple's are kinda related to your ID. Please let me know if you ever need any help. Thanks

Well, once I finished setting up their devices, I tried logging into the iTunes store, but I kept getting a message saying I couldn't connect. I tried logging in using my Apple ID and their Apple ID, but kept getting a message saying I couldn't connect. Then, I found out this morning, that this is a problem on Apple's end. I'm not sure if this is corrected or not yet, but just to make sure I have everything straight, on their devices, my Apple ID shouldn't be logged into anything. I should use their Apple ID to login to the iTunes and app store, iMessage, Facetime, etc. They should be able to buy and download apps since they're linked to my Apple ID, and I gave them authorization, correct?

Regarding iMessage and Facetime, I can login using their phone number and/or their Apple ID. They each have an iPhone, an iPod Touch, one has an iPad, the other has an iPad Mini, and on all the devices, besides their iPhone, there's an option to use their cell phone for Facetime if the devices are on the same WiFi network. I assume this is just so they can use 1 Apple ID to receive Facetime calls instead of someone having to call 2 separate numbers. I guess I'll leave that unchecked since I have the cell phone data disabled on their iPhones because they would use too much data watching Netflix or YouTube when not connected via WiFi. To monitor this, I have a WiFi hotspot they can connect to, and if they start streaming video, I can turn it off.

Last thing I would like to know is regarding parental control apps. It seems like Apple has created iOS so apps can't run in the background, and the only way I can monitor their usage is if they use a particular browser that keeps track of the websites they visit. Is there not any software that allows me to monitor everything? Their text messages, their Facetime, what they watch on YouTube if they're using an app instead of a browser? I don't even own an Apple device. I use Android, and the parental controls seem to have more functionality than iOS? Am I correct?

Please let me know if I'm wrong about anything, particularly using their Apple IDs for everything on their devices. And, using a Family Share plan, is there any way for me to delete these Apple IDs that are associated with mine? Thanks again for everything.

I just spoke to some experts. The reason you see those Apple ID linked to your advanced mail is because of the family sharing. They said thats how it is because of that. And also...You can control your kids devices by simply going to "Restriction". You have to enable the restrictions and then choose what you wanna restrict. You will be required to have a passcode that only you knows. I'm sure you already know how to configure that.

Yes, I'm familiar with the restrictions, but that only restricts them from using certain applications. For example, if you look at the software program called phone sheriff, it allows apps to function, but you can monitor their activity within the app. You can monitor everything done on the device, not just limit content on certain apps, like setting limits for movies, music, apps, etc. I currently have my router configured to restrict their Internet access on school nights through MAC address filtering, but this software allows you do to that, plus monitor text messages, social media (which I don't let them use anyway). For example, if you let your child use YouTube because they like to watch videos about gymnastics, there's no way currently to restrict the content that they can access from within the app. Through Family Sharing, is there a way to monitor what they're doing on their device without restricting the entire application?

Ok, last question, I promise. I've been changing over 7 devices so it's taking quite some time to get everything setup correctly. Under settings, on all devices, does it matter whose Apple ID I have listed under Music and/or Videos for Home Sharing? Their devices are still setup with my Apple ID there, I guess since most of the previous purchases were made under my Apple ID, but moving forward, do they all need to have their own Apple ID listed for Home Sharing or does it even matter since everyone has access to the same content now?

You have to understand what Home Sharing is to understand if this matters ...

  • Do they ever access your computer's iTunes library over Wi-Fi? Home Sharing would let them temporarily connect to your library to stream content to their iPhones over Wi-Fi. Note that this is not syncing to your library, it is a temporary connection for playback purposes only. If they do this, then the ID for Home Sharing needs to be the same between computer and iPhone.
  • Do you have any Apple TVs in the house, and do they use the Remote app to control the Apple TV(s) from their iPhones? If so, then the Home Sharing ID needs to be the same between the Apple TV and iPhone for the Remote app to work.

That's about all I can think of that would be relevant to your situation.

I have a NAS on the network that works as an iTunes server, and they've been able to stream content from there, whether or not they're on the same network or not. Currently, in iTunes on one of my laptops, I'm signed in as the organizer and any content purchased previously was bought using my Apple ID, so I guess my question is, if I change the Apple ID to their's instead of mine, if they'll still have access to our iTunes server, since we're technically under the same Apple ID now, with their iCloud accounts as subcategories of mine.

I have out network setup to stream music, video, etc from any device to any device, but I wanted to make sure they would still have access to the iCloud library on our NAS if I changed the Home Sharing IDs from mine to theirs. When I sync their devices to one of my laptops, it's logged in as me, but each device shows up individually under mine.
