There is not.
Hello,
Yes, you are correct. Halos connect to the iPhone using Bluetooth but uses Airplay to communicate with each other. Akin to you using an ISP to connect to the internet and using a browser to communicate with a server.
To verify this, from the lock screen, bring up your control center. In control center, you will see that Bluetooth is on and Airplay shows your hearing aids. IF you turn off theBT, Airplay will cease as well as your connection to the Halos. You can also verify this by connecting a pair of Airplay enabled speakers then using the control center, toggle between the speakers and your hearing aids. You will notice the same behavior.
BTW, if you don’t see your hearing aids in control center, you did not enable this feature. Go to settings> general> accessability< hearing aids then select the option to show in control center.
I’d tell you more but I’d have to delete you, LOL J/K
HTH and good luck.
raserror645 - I think you are confusing two different operations. The iPhone uses low-power Bluetooth to connect to and control the Halos. Airplay is only used when you are streaming audio from the iPhone to the Halos.
Oldgnome, I thought we were talking about audio? Ringtones?
Anyway, I reread my post and noticed an error. I said Airplay has two channels when I meant to say the IOS has two channels. When using BT, if Airplay is not used, both channels are used together. IF Airplay is used, both channels are used separately.
Oldgnome, BT Airplay speakers are not BT 4.0 LE but behaves the same way as the Halos. Notification on the phone and everything else on the speakers. Why?
As far as the ringing on a wired headset goes, I have a pair of HK CLs and I HEAR THE RINGTONES AND OTHER NOTIFICATIONS THROUGH MY HEADSET. What kind of headsets are you using? Can you control the phone with an inline mic?
I do not use a wireless headset with my iPhone. I only use a wired headset to listen to music and on phone calls. I do not use the headset itself to initiate calls.
I am new to hearing aids as of the last month. I just got Halo i110s and agree I would like to have the incoming call ring in the aids. Before the Halos, I used a Plantronics Voyager Legend BT earpiece. This device announced the call into my ear with the option to answer or ignore by verbal command. I guess what I am saying is what we want is possible, practical in a unit the size of the Halo may be another story.
DCKing22:
The Halos do not support in-the-ear ringing or call notification. The Plantronics device uses a different Bluetooth (standard) connection from the Halos. The Halos use the Low Power Bluetooth connection.
Thank you for the response. I gathered that from the discussion. I was just making the point that it was possible and I believe desirable to have at least in the ear ringing. It is great to be able to carry on a conversation through the Halos, but only if you hear the iPhone ring in the first place. Hopefully the Halos will improve my hearing so much I can hear the iPhone ring when it is in a coat pocket.
Desirable, yes. Possible....not as I understand the technologies involved.
I'm OK with the feature, but only if we then have the option to turn it off, too. I get startled when the little voice in me head says, "battery." A year later and I'm still not used to hearing that about once a week.
🙂
I certainly agree with you about in the ear ringing. I assiduously insert reminders in my calendar and various messagings, and miss most of them because they don't ring in the ear. My audi installed Starkey's upgrade today, but it doesn't seem to have affected the notifications. Boo Hiss Starkey.
My wife has the Starkey Halo i110 BTE 13 hearing aids and they do ring in her ear. I am about to get the same model and we were just discussing that this might be a problem for me because I teach and the ringing during class would be a distraction.
bfarmer - It sounds like new features have been added to the Starkey Halos.
Have you considered using Do Not Disturb on your iPhone? That will prevent the phone from ringing.
At last Apple solved the problem with IOS 9. My hearing aids now get the phone ring and alert tones!
How do you set that? Is it automatic?
It's automatic, Just update to IOS9 and it starts working. Even with the ring mute switch it will still be heard in the hearing aids.
Lovely. That likely means I am going to have to dig to find where to turn it off....unlike some of you, I do not want my cell phone ringing in my Halos.
