USB-C and Thunderbolt Display Connectivity

I attempted to get a clear answer to my below question by chatting with a few Apple Store reps on the website... Nobody had a clear answer. Hence, I was told to turn to this forum and pose my question.

Will the newly released Macbook which only contains the USB-C connector function with existing Apple Thunderbolt Displays? I currently use my Macbook Pro Retina laptop with the Thunderbolt display and cannot live without this functionality... It is simply too convenient to give up.

Although video and audio may be able to connect to the Thunderbolt Display through adapters, what happens to the Macbook's power supply? Is it possible to have video, audio, AND power flow through the single USB-C connector? Otherwise, the Macbook would only be capable of connecting with the Thunderbolt Display while running off of Batter power.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to any categorical responses to the above!

Not sure what you mean by "there are no adapters that work with my two thunderbolt displays" I am typing from my new Macbook Pro using my old Thunderbolt display for my screen. I simply bought the USB C to Thunderbolt adaptor from Apple and it works fine.

Back to the original question... This does not charge the Macbook Pro and I have not found a magsafe to USB C converter to do that, though this company promises one in January: http://www.snapnator.com/

Hi,

I have the same issue I bought the new MB Pro, with only USB-C and my Apple TB Display doesn't fit with

I have read and my question is if the USBC adapter to TB works fine?

And what is the experience, Do I have to lift my MB Pro display to have the image in my external display (don't like)?

With my last MB Pro the TB Display works as a Dock station very well!!!

I spotted this dilemma early on, certainly I have often found that being an early adopter of Apple products is not so rewarding, indeed these days being a fast follower is not such a good idea either. I suspect that in recent years Apple have placed less emphasis on synergistic ecosystems and more on silo'd development.

By way of helpful input... I currently use a thunderbolt hub with my 2015 MBP so that I can more easily use a single plug'n'play approach to connect 2 x Thunderbolt monitors, a hard drive, Wacom board and anything else I need to plug-in. I see no reason why it would be possible to put a USB-C to Thunderbolt adaptor on the laptop end of such a setup and it should work fine. In due course I would expect OWC or Startech et al come up with a dedicated solution.
