iPhone ... Apple Watch ... In-Car Bluetooth ... Issues?

My car's (Jaguar) Bluetooth system automatically connects to my iPhone 5 as soon as I switch the ignition on.
If I get an Apple Watch, my iPhone will already be connected to the watch when I start my car.

I believe that this will prevent the phone from connecting to my car's Bluetooth as that would require the phone to be capable of communicating with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, which it can't.

Am I correct?

iPhone 5, null

Did you not read my post? At the time of posting, the manual for the Apple Watch had not been made available and the watch itself had not been released. You answered with, essentially, speculation on what Apple should or should not have done. I'm not sure how speculation and taking other people to task adds to the value of this thread (which had been dormant for over a month).

Yes I read your post, I didn't need the watch manual, I have 30 years experience working with Bluetooth and hands free devices and was happy to offer that experience to the OP who was asking for it. I'm not taking anyone to task, only expressing my displeasure at how rude the reply was to a perfectly valid and civil question, which is something that if I want to do I'll do and I don't need your permission, Quite why your sticking you nose in now I don't know, you're certainly not adding any value to the thread; talk about a demonstration in hypocrisy.

No, it wasn't answered to the extent possible as the information in my post was also available at the time. But that's not really the point, as your post was at least an attempt at being helpful - my criticism was aimed at comments like "Which part of this do you not understand ." and "then read the Terms of Use you agreed to when joining back in 2012 and you will understand it is NOT a discussion or chat forum". Which are neither helpful nor necessary.

but true and very necessary for trolls unfortunately

Anyway, I had the same concern. I received my Apple Watch Sport the other day and it CAN connect to both in-car bluetooth and the watch at the same time. What's more, when using Overcast for Podcasts, you can control what's playing through your in-car system from the watch. Tested also with my bluetooth headphones in the gym and also bluetooth headset at work - no problems whatsoever although the work bluetooth did drop connection a couple of times but immediately re-connected (and not while I was on a call). Don't know if that's down to bluetooth priority while on a call or just a coincidence but I'm happy either way.

I am using an iPhone 6 and Apple Watch Sport 42mm.

The iPhone 5 will connect to the Bluetooth without affecting the connection to the Apple Watch. On incoming calls the car Bluetooth will act as normal and allow you to answer and communicate with the caller. The iPhone will also continue to operate normally on out going calls made using the phone and not the watch. Here is the rub, if you use the watch's SIRI function or regular select contact to make a call the Bluetooth will not connect unless the phone is active (unlocked). The call will continue on the watch speaker and microphone until you take the phone, unlock it and open the phone call. Seems like a bug and will most likely be fixed in some software upgrade. My suggestion is to turn off the phone lock in the car and let the phone stay active for outgoing calls but message notifications won't happen while its active which is good when you are driving 🙂. I still think the watch is Apple's finest hour to date!
