Tilde key stopped working in US Keyboard in 2012 iMac with Yosemite

Hi all.

I've got a problem that is annoying. My tilde key ~ isn't working; the regular (non-shift) key is not working either.

I use the console a lot for server work so the tilde is kinda important for me.

I have read numerous threads about that key not working emulators and for international keyboards etc etc, but nothing about a regular key board not working. This seems to have only happened with Yosemite, and probably the one right before it (forgot that cat codename).

I can't use the option N method either cause it seems not to be the same tilde in some of my servers.

I'd really like to get this working again.

Keyboard model : A1314 wireless bluetooth keyboard that came with my iMac.

Thanks for any help.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

if a reboot does not fix it then it's with 93% suddenly a hardware issue with the keyboard, one can always verify it by connecting it to another computer it don't even have to be a mac computer a broken keyboard is broken on all operating systems
