Why am I getting 2 images of each picture on iPhoto when I connect my iPhone to the iMac?

I have been experiencing this problem for a while. However, it doesn't happen all the times.

When I connect my iPhone (4s) to my iMac (running Yosemite), iPhoto pops up on screen, all the pictures from my iPhone displaying under "Devices" (i.e. the iPhone) are all duplicated, meaning each picture has 2 copies displaying. Therefore, I don't feel comfortable uploading them to the iMac, worrying that I may get 2 copies of everything taking up the memory.

Appreciate if someone could help me resolve this problem. Thank you.

Before you import unplug the iPhone and plug it back in. That usually will remove the duplicate photos showing and import just one copy.

Thanks for the above input from all. I found, regardless of updates and whatnot... that if I were importing photos from my phone via the USB connection, I had to make sure that in iTunes both "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" and Sync this iPhone over wifi were UNCHECKED.

Open iPhoto after those options in iTunes correspond, and finally the duplicate issue stopped.

Question... do you delete the photos that you download to iPhoto on your Mac or keep them (referring to your iPhone)? iPhoto will show the photos more than once if you have previously downloaded them but didn't delete them from the source. As far as you iPhone is concerned, you only have 1 picture. As far as your Mac is concerned, it has the picture already and thinks you wish to download them again because they are still on the iPhone. It's very easy to miss click and save them on your iPhone. Usually iPhoto reports them as duplicates... if it is, then clearly the photos have been downloaded before and are still on your iPhone.

They are newly-taken images that have never been uploaded. Photos that have been previously uploaded to iMac but not deleted were displayed in another section on top that says "already imported".

In fact, everything (both "already imported" and "new photos") is displayed duplicated. It does not happen every time I plug my iPhone to the iMac. So, I don't know why I get it sometimes. It's very annoying. Just want to know what I do wrong to cause this.

Thank you. I unplugged and reconnected to iMac, all the duplicates are gone. So frustrating, it has been on-going for a while. I looked at the link you sent me, knowing I'm not alone.

In fact, similar problem also happens to my iPhone Mail app. I get 2 copies of one message, thinking that I got 2 separate messages, when I delete one, both were gone. APPLE ... wake up and fix these problems please.
