If I install the latest version of iTunes, do I delete my iPod backup? HELP!

My iPod touch 5 was stolen last november. I couldn't get all my stuff (photos, videos, etc) back. A friend told me that I could retrieve all that by connecting another Apple device to my computer and "copying" the backup of my iPod there. I have just installed the latest version of iTunes and I don't know if the backup was deleted or not and if I will be able to get my photos back or not. I couldn't get another device to copy the backup yet so I'm freaking out please help me!
