After i updated iOS 8.2, my message app in my iPhone 5 always freezes. What is the reason behind this? Is there any solution about this problem? Thanks God Bless 🙂

Hello imsuperjb,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you have noticed your Messages application on your iPhone becoming unresponsive after a recent iOS update. In this situation, the next time Messages becomes unresponsive, I would recommend closing the application completely and then open it fresh. Please let me know if the issue conintues.

sadly Apple has become an arrogant company rivalling even their main competitor. They are more interested in how they can manipulate their customer base for profit than having stable useful operating systems and applications for which they were once worshipped. Balme has to be laid at the top in my opinion. Not only did they ruin the desktop with that load of rubbish called Yosemite, in which pretty much everything has been broken or ruined, but now they are doing the same to iOs. Well lets hope their share price plunges soon because thats the ONLY thing they are interested in these days. Then they may realise that excreting on your own customers leads to a loss of loyalty and declining revenue.

I was in the middle of a "text fest" a few days ago, when all of a sudden, out of the blue, not only can I not sent text messages, I cant receive them either. I forced a shut down... tumed it on/off, updated to 8.4.1.. Turned iMessage on/off/on/off/on/off...

Called my service provider (no problems with Virgin Mobile)

And 4 days later, I still cannot message!!!

Please help!!!!

Going insane!!!

Sadly for me, this problem persists with iOS 9. The symptoms have changed somewhat however. I have done a complete hard restore through iTunes.

It now seems as thought the problem may be related to iMessage specifically. When going into Settings and putting in the Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime, it takes quite a while to verify, sometimes throwing up errors and requiring multiple attempts. Once the verification is complete, this is when the Messages app starts to malfunction. iMessages don't seem to send send, with the progress bar stuck at about 90%. When I go back into Settings > Messages the phone sort of hangs and it takes approx 15 - 30 seconds for the screen to load. When it does load I've been logged out of iMessage and the same for the Settings > FaceTime. When going into the Messages app it is very slow to load and when it finally does it loads a blank new message. When I cancel out of that the list of messages is completely empty. And so the process starts again...

Infuriating - have been without a working Messages app for months now. 😠

I called my carrier about this issue and learned it's quite common for iPhone users. They said 95% of the time the problem is remedied by deleting old and/or lengthy previous text messages.

Also, everyone week or two some customers have been advised to go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings to reset, as not everyone uses their phone the same & thus network settings can get out whack. Fortunately for me since doing these two steps 3 weeks ago I have not had recurrence of this issue.
