unable to upload .mov files to iCloud drive

I took the plunge and purchased some iCloud storage in lieu of photos appearing, it was a toss up between dropbox or iCloud and the integration with OS X won out for now, so decided to upload all of my files (these are also backed up via Time Machine).

But files with the extension .mov are not being uploaded from the iCloud drive folder on my mac to the cloud, they sit at the "waiting" state while any other file type waits, syncs and appears in the cloud drive on my iPhone or via the browser drive view.

All my video files with the extension .m4* upload ok, I tried renaming a small .mov file to .m4v and .m4p etc but no upload, I renamed some .m4* files to .mov and they upload so its not being blocked by the extension, I know .mov is a package so is it some encryption format problem that apple reject?

I can upload directly from the web browser view and the .mov file appears in iCloud but is is not synced back to the mac drive folder.

I can encode the .mov files to .m4* type and they upload ok from the mac folder.

The files range from 6mb to 1gb so its not size.

Anybody seen this before or have solutions or pointers to debug?

Thanks.

iMac (20-inch Early 2008), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), null

There are two kinds of content you cannot upload:

  • Purchased items, that are protected (are your videos home movies or purchased items?)
  • and files that are larger than 15GB. iCloud has a size limit.

Large items may take a very long time to upload.

And you must not upload packages, like iPhoto Libraries or Aperture libraries. They may be corrupted by the updating across devices.

Looking at the logs I this output seems to be linked to the .mov files (when I move the .mov files into the drive folder)

Not sure I want to pay for a service which does not want to accept some file formats without any feedback why, I can upload these files to dropbox all day long without issue. If anybody has seen this and has a solution please let me know.

I wanted to finally have all of my photos in one place and thought I could do that with Photos and iCloud Photo Library. I have a 32000 file library on a hard drive and not only will iCloud not upload the .mov files, it also won't upload any file that is not a .jpg, no tif no png. I even had some edited .psd files in there. I would expect it not to upload those, but it totally just freezes, and says it won't upload if its not a jpeg. You said this issue was resolved, but something is still awry. Can you help?

What is the exact error message?

Create a smart album in Photos "File > New Smart Album" and use the single rule "Photo is unable to upload to iCloud Photo Library".

Is this album empty or does it contain photos and videos?

Check also with a rule "Photo is referenced". Is this album empty?
