I couldn't help but noticing that the "old" 13.3 inch MacBook Pro is not available at the store anymore. Does Apple not sell this model now that the new MacBook Pro is released?

That model isn't in the UK Store - it's evidently been superseded by the 2.7GHz model as an update. Is there any reason that won't do? - I don't know what the price of the previous model was.

If it's not in the Store then they're not selling it. It may very well be available from independent retailers, or if you keep an eye on the refurbished info in the Store it might turn up there if you're lucky.
The price of the previous model was (in the Swedish store) 897.55 £ and the newer model is at 1131.79 £. Paying an extra 234 £ for a slightly better touch pad and a slightly faster processor is really a stretch in my book!
Apple typically stops manufacturing models when new versions are released. Older models are only available while stock lasts.

It is still in the UK Store. If it's not visible in other countries' Stores then it may be a question of stock being run down and I suppose it may disappear from the USA/UK Stores eventually.
