why is compressor so slow???

Hello,


encoding 15minut video from FCPX to Compressor and 1080p YouTube takes 3+ hours.


That's ridiculously slow.


Do I do something wrong??


I have a new 6 core MacPro with 64GB Ram and SSD's

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), 64 GB Ram

It really does. Depends on what you feed it.


For example: If the input file is say, a 15 minute 1080P30 Pro Res clip, the file size would be nearly 17GB. That's because for that format, Pro Res 422 has a data rate of 147 Mbps. If you used the 1080P30 video sharing preset, Compressor would turn it into an h.264 file with a data rate of 20 Mbps. The output file would be about 2.3 GB…much smaller.


But it you were to feed it a 15 min 1080P30 H.264 file already encoded at 20 Mbps (about 2.3 GB) and applied the same preset, it would output…a 2.3 GB file. So in that case you'd be right.
