Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

MacBook Pro, mid 2010 with 10.10.2, fails to wake from sleep. Must do a power off and restart.

MacBook Pro, a 13" mid 2010 model, 2.4 Ghz, running on 10.10.2 Yosemite, has started to fail to wake from sleep about 75% of the time. No pattern established. Sometimes from sleep entered by closing the lid; sometimes from sleep entered by using the Apple button or just inactivity. Has happened on both battery and AC. Not running any peripherals. Programs open at most times include Chrome or Safari and Messages. Forced off with the power button and restart will bring it back. Any suggestions?

I've also been having this problem for about 8 months on a 13" Macbook Pro mid 2009. I'm afraid I don't have an answer either. I tried most of the things you have. I also went back to Snow Leopard and things seemed to be fine again (although I only tested it for 2 days), then reinstalled Yosemite and things we're OK for a day or 2 before the problem returned. It's odd that it is intermittent with no clear pattern to it. very frustrating. I'll probably go back to Snow Leopard or Mavericks. Still keen to hear if there is a fix though.

I read this on another feed. Going to try it.

"Last night I tried something new to address this problem. Under System Preferences->Energy Saver->Power Adapter I unchecked (i.e. turned off) "wake for network access". For the first time since installing Yosemite my MBA 13" 2012 did NOT crash on wake event!

Has anyone else had luck with turning the "wake for network access" off?"

A few months ago I started having the same problem on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro running Lion (10.7.5). NVRAM and SMC resets after hard restarts would sometimes make the problem go away for a few days, but sometimes the next sleep event would be followed by an inability to wake. As you noted, programs running, AC or battery power, etc. all appear to have no consistent effect on the problem.

A few things I've noticed:

  1. If I attempt to wake the computer from sleep, the winking status light on the front goes off, as though the computer woke up, and eventually, the computer will get hot and the fans will spin up.
  2. It happened overnight after I left the computer booted to a Lion installation USB stick. Same symptoms, even though it wasn't booted to the internal drive.

All of this would seem to point to a hardware problem. Have any of you run Disk Utility to check your boot volume for faults?
