iTunes store is currently unavailable

Here's the sequence of events

  1. Turn on Apple TV, then turn on TV
  2. Go to TV shows
  3. My library appears.
  4. Choose TV series
  5. Select episode from the series
  6. Instead of the "play" option, the error message "iTunes store is currently unavailable:"

Here's the list of steps I've taken

  • Verify apple id and password are correct
  • Intentionally log-out of current session; then log back in
  • Verified no software updates are available
  • Checked signal strength [5/5]
  • Restarted Apple TV
  • ISP refreshed cable modem
  • Re-booted modem and wireless router

None of it made any difference. I continue to receive the same error message.

I'll take any ideas anyone has. It's been like this foe two days now.

Re: New episodes available for download - The Blacklist, Season 2 AND Shark Tank, Season 6

WILL NOT PLAY...AGAIN. BOTH NEW EPISODES SHOW UP ON APPLE TV, but:

"THE ITUNES STORE IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE. TRY AGAIN LATER" ...AGAIN! (as of now: for two hours).

Can you imagine turning on "normal" TV to see a show or sporting event or BREAKING NEWS

and seeing a message that says, "Try again later".

iTunes store is UP and store PLAYS older episodes, but not the new ones.

THIS IS A BUG!

REBOOTED the Apple TV. (Unreliable crap, requiring frequent rebooting. I have 4.)

NO HELP.

I had always hesitated to PURCHASE TV episodes and especially MOVIES for fear that I would someday NOT BE ABLE to access them...if, for example, Apple went out of business. BUT here we are and Apple is still (sort of) in business, BUT NOT AVAILABLE AND NOT RELIABLE. I WILL NOT PURCHASE ANY MORE TV OR MOVIES FROM APPLE TV.

NO WONDER "Tim" lowered the price on Apple TV.

NOTE, However, that I WAS able to download the new Blacklist episode to my iPhone (using up valuable real estate, so I'll have to delete it) AND play it through AirPlay (one of the RARE TIMES AIRPLAY WORKED).

Apple is really screwed and screwed up. TIM HAS FAILED US.

Apple died when Steve jObs was fired years ago, and now that he's dead, it will fail again.

Back to ROKU! (I have two, never had a problem with them, never had to reboot.)

And… ON TO SAMSUNG GALAXY phones! (We currently have 3 iphone 6+, not to mention past iPhone 5s's and 5's. Never 4...thought an Apple Phone was a bad idea. I was right... So MANY things don't work with the iPhone 6+ and iOS 8, and , strangely, NO ONE is reporting them to us ONLINE.)

(A friend just texted a picture from her Galaxy 5. The clarity was so outstanding, it was blinding.

Our iPhone 6 PLUS's (and 5s) make the pictures look like they have the photoshop painted "Sprayed Strokes" effect applied. Very bad.)

Just for grins I decided to try and watch a movie -- yup works fine. Appears the server is only down for TV shows and then for only some of us. I checked out the link ,someone provided where you can see the status of everything Apple. It shows the server as "up". If someone from Apple monitors the group, we sure could use some kind words right about now; words like "it's fixed".

Not working on a movie here in Aus for us. 2/3 way through a rental movie. All at work tomorrow when it runs out. What happens when Apple can't provide the service paid for in a situation like this? Do they extend the rental time automatically, or refund the price paid, or do we just head to a different movie provider "next time"?

Contact iTunes Store support for the purchase/rental in question - I would hope that they would provide credit/refund for the movie you've not been able to view properly.

Instead of clicking on the show under purchased, go to search and type in the name of the tv show episode, it should then work

Such workarounds have worked in some instances in the past, and while this should at least let people view things, Apple needs to sort this out as naturally you are going to try to play your purchases from the Purchased section….
