iOS: Understanding Personal Hotspot - Apple Support

Changing your Wi-Fi password

Personal Hotspot Wi-Fi networks require a password. You cannot disable this feature.

You can change your Wi-Fi password by tapping Settings > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot and then tapping the Wi-Fi password.

hi thanks for the advice - I use my wifi at home sometime to download files etc and so my wifi password works on my router for wi fi access - I did not realise with iphone 6 that its the same password ?

if this is the case then you are telling me that the hotspot password and wifi password are one and the same ? previously on iphone 5 and 4 these were separate - am I missing something here or is it a combined security password now - if so it doesn't make sense somehow

any further info is greatly appreciated - i'll try it next time I need it and get back to you

You can connect to your iPhone using Bluetooth.

This way you don't even need a password if you are using an iPad or a Mac.

As for your WiFi password:

I have the feeling that you are confusing the Home WiFi password with the iPhone WiFi password.

The Home WiFi password is on your router

The iPhone WiFi password is located in Settings=>General=>Personal Hotspot

The two passwords are not the same, unless you make them the same (not a good idea!)

But as I said, if you connect to your phone with BT, you don't need the Hotspot password.
