Can I use RAM from my PC laptop in a Mac?

I am getting rid of one of my PC laptops that currently has 16gb of RAM in it. DDR3, 1600. Is it possible to

have that RAM installed in my late 2012 iMac? I have heard that some Macs use compatible RAM.

If not in the iMac, could it be installed in our 2012 Macbook 13"?

OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), late 2012 model iMac

Unless the specifications of the RAM are identical to what the Mac asks for the answer is NO! Purchase RAM only from Crucial (directly from their on-line store) or OWC at www.macsales.com.
