Opening ODS files

I have been trying to open an ODS file. Its on the gov.uk site and it is the live planning statistics, https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/live-tables-on-planning-appl ication-statistics but I can't get it to open. Any help welcome. Thanks

Either use the LibreOffice variant (https://www.libreoffice.org/) that appears to be properly code signed or go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General where there should be some kind of "open" checkbox to allow using OpenOffice.

ps: I'm a little bit uncertain about the exact text/location of this option as it's been a while since I needed to use it.

An application that is not downloaded from the OS X App Store will present this dialog the first time it is run. In Finder, right-click on the application icon in /Applications, and choose open. Then choose open again from the application dialog. OS X will then validate this application, and subsequent use of the application via double-click will launch normally.

The .ODS (OpenDocument spreadsheet) format is shared by OpenOffice and LibreOffice. I favor, and use the latter on both my Mavericks and Yosemite machines.
