Apple software updater for iTunes says "new software is available, 12.1.1" but new software download is the same version as installed software, iTunes 12.1.1.4. Has been recurring for over a month. Reinstalled iTunes with assistance from Apple support on 3/4.

I asked the same thing 2 months ago and all I have seen and heard is crickets. At least I know its not just my computer.
I reinstalled I Tunes and deleted the Apple Software Update and reinstalled it and still it persists.
Seems to happen on bootup on Tuesday mornings. Happened this morning again. Same details as other weeks. Message "new software is available from apple", "iTunes 12.1.1". Then download new software only to find it is the exact same version as from last week and week before, "12.1.1.4". Searched registry with regedit and found it has itunes version "12.1.1.4" as it should have. Did find multiple instances in registry where itunes installer shows ComponentVersion "12.1.1.4" but ProductVersion "12.1.1". maybe updater is comparing against productversion and missing that the actual version installed is component 12.1.1.4? I'm guessing this problem won't go away until 12.1.2 or 12.2.x.
Its Tuesday and the updater ran again, with the same results. I found the schedule task AppleSoftwareUpdate in task scheduler. it is scheduled to run on Tuesday mornings at 9:03. I deleted that scheduled task. That should be no big deal since iTunes will check when it runs.
12.1.2 is now available, has that solved your problem? If not, is your Windows 8 64-bit or 32-bit? If 64-bit, are you running the iTunes version "for older video cards"?
Nope. It did not work. It updated to the current version but still acts like it needs to be updated.
I do have 64 bit. It is a new HP Laptop less then 2 yrs old.

Try repairing Apple Software Update from the Programs and Features control panel. That might improve its ability to identify if there is a real update or not.
Alternatively it might help to clear the folder C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple\Apple Software Update - mine is currently empty and the software behaves as it should.

Thanks for the tips. I tried both to no avail. I just deactivated the scheduler so that it does not pop up. Seems to be the easiest thing to do.. I wont know about updates until I start iTunes but that's not a huge issue.
