Yahoo Mail stopped updating on iPad and iPhone.

Hi

my Yahoo Mail suddenly stopped updating on my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 at the same time. I was traveling and it took a couple of days to notice. When I logged on to a Yahoo! Mail via Safari, I had lots of emails which were not updating on either the iPad or iPhone.

1. I Reconfirmed the password multiple times in Settings.

2. I Deleted the Yahoo Mail account from my iPhone and reinstalled - it didn't work.

3. I Updated the iOS software and redid the above. It didn't work.

4. I Cleared the cache in the iPad (didn't do 2& 3 above on the iPad yet)

What do I need to do?

Thanks.

Hi OutsourcingMyQuestions,

I see that you have completed several relevant troubleshooting steps for addressing this issue with your mail on your iPhone, but I have a few other steps you can try that may help address this issue:

First, try these basic troubleshooting steps:

  1. To make sure that you're connected to the Internet, open Safari and go to www.apple.com.
  2. Log in to your email provider's website to make sure that the account is active and the password is correct.
  3. Make sure your settings are correct using Mail Settings Lookup.
  4. Restart your iOS device.
  5. Delete the affected email account from your device.
    1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    2. Tap the affected email account.
    3. Tap Delete Account.
    4. Add your account again.

You may also need to verify that an app-specific password is not required for this account, as noted in the above article:

"Cannot get mail"

Make sure you entered the correct password. If you enabled two-step verification through your email service provider, contact them to see if you need a special password for your iOS device.

A lot of people have been unable to access Yahoo e-mail on their iPhones or iPads. My wife’s iPad was not downloading Yahoo mail, although her iPhone was. Both used IOS 8.2. We tried deleting the account several times and troubleshooting all of the other settings. The problem appears to have been that allowing the IOS to automatically create the account on the iPad resulted in the wrong settings for the incoming server. The following procedure, pieced together from two websites, fixed the problem for us. So far, so good.

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mobile-mail/imap-server-settings-sln4075.html

On the iPhone, tap Settings.

Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Tap your Yahoo account, then delete it.

Tap Add Account.

Tap Other.

Tap Add Mail Account.

Complete the Name, Address (email address), Password and Description fields.

Click Next.

Ensure IMAP is selected.

Enter the following incoming mail server information:

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL

Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com

Port: 993

Requires SSL: Yes

Hostname is mail.yahoo.com.

Username is your full email address

Password is the same password used to access webmail.

Enter the following outgoing mail server information:

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires SSL

Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Port: 465 or 587

Requires SSL: Yes

Requires authentication: Yes

Username is your full email address

Password is the same password used to access webmail. It may have been entered for you.

Tap Next.

The iPhone will establish an SSL connection to your IMAP and SMTP servers.

That’s all!

HI.

Thank you for your reply. I had tried turning off and restarting several times. I tried changing from s Push to Pull setting. I had already checked the password multiple times. I deleted and reinstalled twice.

I Don't know what it was but four days after my Yahoo emails stopped updating it started again to update.

SO my problem is solved but I'm not exactly sure how.
