Leica DNG...

Can anyone suggest when it may be possible to use Aperture 1.5 with either a Leica DMR or a Leica M8.

I struggle to comprehend how a product aimed at pro-photographers supports compact cameras before the Pro. Level equipment.

Many thanks in advance.

Well, Eoin,

we gave it a good try 🙂 Unfortunately, the image shows up as a blank picture in the film strip section of Aperture which, when I click on it, briefly shows the picture in the view section, but then immediately it gives way to the dark red screen w/ unsupported file format written thereon:(

Followed instructions exactly; tried it w/ both the *ist D and with the Sony options, but no luck. I"ll just use the "other guy" until Aperture/Apple gets updated, and by then I'll probably be good enough with the "other guy" that it won't matter.

anyways, thanks again very much,

tony

There is something not right here, I have it working on my MBP with a K10D PEF file I downloaded today and ran through the Adobe converter and successfully imported into aperture with a thumbnail showing in the browser and when you click it you get a full image with all the raw adjustments enabled and not grayed out.

1. are you sure you have the latest v 1.0.1 of the apple raw image support, download it again to be sure.

2. Aperture is version 1.5.2?.

3. You have v 3.7 of the Adobe DNG converter and you are converting PEF's to DNG's with adobe DNG only?.
Are you sure the preferences are set as I have suggested?.

4. You are editing the correct raw.plist System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/ Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Raw.plist and not a backup version you made and you can save your changes?. You will have had to change the permissions and ownership of this file to save it. After making the changes , reopen the file and make sure the changes are still there.

5. You have restarted aperture since editing and saving the raw.plist?.

Sorry if this sounds a bit basic but there is a silly mistake in there somewhere, it's just meant to guide you through the problem solving process.

If it works for me, it should work for you.

Hi Eoin,

I'm thinking you're right, recognizing that silly mistakes are all too frequent an occurrence the older i get 🙂

1. I dl'd the 1.0.1 and, clicking on the install .pkg, I get a message saying "this system does not need this update." I'm running 10.4.8 on a dual 1.8 g5 w/ ATI X800XT video card 256 meg of ram and 1.2 gig of system ram.

2. Aperture is version 1.5.2

3. I have 3.7 of Adobe DNG, w/ preferences set to those you've named. I click on Convert and I get a dialogue box showing each of the PEF's "converting" to DNG's.

4. Have edited the correct file and indeed had to change permissions and ownership to do that. Reopened and file was there, and restarted Aperture after all that.

5. My thought is that it is somewhere in Step 4 here where I'm screwing up, so, when I get back from work later today, I'll give it another try.

thanks so much for patience, Eoin,

tony

Eoin,

patient cancelled, so I had the time to work on it.

HOOOOOOOORAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! My Pentax K10D now works in the Adjustments section.

Here's what I was doing wrong (argh): I was recording on the camera in Raw/DNG mode, not in PEF. When I changed to recording in PEF mode, did the DNG conversion, well, it works now perfectly!! Oh yes, I duplicated the Sony A100 and used those settings for my K10D.

You were right: stupid simple mistake.

thanks again, Eoin, I'll be hoisting a Guinness or two to you this evening 🙂
