My Mac's version is OS X 10.5.8 with 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB 667 MHz and my safari browser is Version 5.0.6 (5533.22.3). I keep getting messages that my browser is not supported. What is the best course of action, please?

What is the best course of action, please? Do I need to update the mac version? I am a technically challenged Grandmother so am looking forward to someone to help me out. Thank you

My advice would be to stay on the 10.6.8 Snow Leopard system once you have got it, as Neil suggested. Many regard it as the best OS Apple ever offered and while it is no longer officially supported, if you browse sensibly you should be fine. One last point, the DVD will probably arrive as 10.6.3. and to get to 10.6.8 you would normally use the software update route. There is, however, a 'Combo updater' which will add some further security to that.

I don't want to anticipate Neil's reply so I will just say that if you used the combo updater to arrive at your final 10.6.8, your safari version should be 5.1.10 (6534 59 10). You can go no higher with Snow Leopard. It is true that some sites will ask you to update your browser, which is why Firefox was suggested. It is a reliable browser, regularly updated in security terms.
