I have iMovie 10.0.05: neither the turtle icon nor the volume, stabilisation or noise reduction buttons will work either. I may have inadvertently switched something on/off?
Are they simply greyed-out? This will be the case unless the playhead is over a video clip in the timeline.

Yes, the playhead is positioned over a clip; but it's odd that the first three options in Adjustment work fine (colour balance,correction and cropping) but not the next three (which are the ones I need!)
Over a video clip? The the controls which don't apply (like volume, stabilisation and noise reduction for a still clip) will be greyed-out.
If it is a video clip then I don't know why they don't show.

Thanks - you're right - it's not a video but a series of stills (stop motion) which is why I need to up the speed.
iMovie 10 is not reallly suitable for stop-motion. If its just a small part of your project you could export it as a video then re-import. Now it will be considered a video clip and you will be able to speed it up. If all your project is stop motion then you are better off using an application designed for this.
