Lacie 2Big 4TB Raid0 Replacement Drives

My Lacie 2Big 4TB recently failed on me. That came preformatted as a Raid0.

Upon the recommendation of OWC I replaced the Seagate drives which came with the Lacie with two Toshiba drives.

Using disk utility I created a brand-new Raid0.

Problem. Although this new Raid0 mounts absolutely fine, the drives sounds like they're constantly being accessed in some bizarre reason that sound you get when the drivers being written to . Furthermore my Softraid 5 software seem to imply that the drives are actually not brand-new at all but it had over 5000 hours of use.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

Well, I've been working with this Scary LaCIE Raid 0 since summer 2012 . Longest tightrope walk in history probably.

Heh.. I know what you mean..

I discovered about six months ago.... quite by accident... that the highly recommended FW800 Glyph 7200rpm drives I used to use for many years.... as my main audio / project drives.. all not only had the wrong drives installed... (Slower 5400s instead of 7200s..) but the drives that were installed.. were all pre-used refurb drives! The number of usage hours they had on them was... very scary indeed! Over 6 times the recommended max read/write cycles...

Glyph were really apologetic when I contacted them... but it seems the dealer I bought them from.. (who is no longer in business it seems) actually took out the original spec'd drives and replaced them with these slower refurbs ... prior to sending the enclosures to me... so it wasn't an error with Glyph as they have never used the type of drives found in mine, in any of their enclosures... and frankly, I believe them.

Now i know why the ones i bought, were such a good deal....................................................
