macbook pro mid 2010 logic board and keyboard blown

i have macbook pro mid 2010. took it to Apple and was told Logic board and keyboard blown, cost to repair was more than comp worth so sourced and have replaced like for like Logic board (not at apple prices) but still getting a blank white/grey screen, logic board guaranteed working so is it possible this be resolved with new keyboard or if not what other issues could there be. Am i barking up the wrong tree trying to fix this. seems a shame to scrap, as unit is / was great.

cheers chris

The hard drive is normally salvageable. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, you might find the tips on http://www.ifixit.com/ helpful in putting back together the computer. Mind you, Macs will not run an operating system older than what shipped with them, and that includes their logic board. So make sure the logic board you have is exactly the same age as the one which was replaced.

Good luck.

It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the exact model, size, year built (early or late 2010), RAM installed and OS you're running.

A bit more history would also help.

Like what were the original symptoms?

". took it to Apple and was told Logic board and keyboard blown,"

How could they tell that if the logic board was blown?

" still getting a blank white/grey screen,'

Have you tried an external monitor?

Have you tried an external keyboard?

Hi, the macbook pro is mid 2010 13"

it had 2x 2 gb ram and the original hard drive, snow leopard was last software i think.

i plugged in a Chinese iPod (i know) and then turned on mac, it clicked and went black then would not start, it then eventually booted but then was inconsistent, booting then not booting. I took it to apple who told me the logic board was shot and the keyboard. it would work out too expensive to fix and not worth while they said, but hard drive was ok. i have since accessed the hard drive externally and it is ok.

i have replaced the logic board and the keyboard but still coming with start tone then grey screen, i am at a loss. don't want to bin it as it was a good computer.

Thoughts
