aiff type audio files won't play on iTunes

I have some teaching audio cd's. I tried importing them to iTunes. It is very weird but it broke it up into tracks. I listen to one track and it speaks and then it looses sound for awhile. Like it is going around the tracks then it comes to another track and there is sound then nothing.

It appears that itunes only works with music? I want to listen to the aiff files on iTunes but I guess I will have to buy a CD player just to listen to these CD's I want to listen to.

For test purposes, try playing the tracks without using iTunes. You can set the "CDs & DVDs" System Preference not to start iTunes when you insert a music CD.
When you insert the CD you should see one AIFF file for each track. Try dragging a track to the QuickTime icon in the dock and see how it sounds. You can also play tracks from the "Preview" pane of Get-Info (⌘I)
