Did you try pressing Command+6 to see if it will display in the list once you do that?

I have tried but didn't work
My ebooks are in the books folder under iTunes, but don't appear in the itunes application

Correct.
They appear in the Mac's iBooks application.
I can not see the label "books" in my library of itunes
