USB 3.0 Hubs/Controller

Hi,

Just installed Windows 8.1 using Boot Camp Assistant. While on the OS X Yosemite side, all my external drives are seen and are useable. However, several of the same drives are not available when booted into Windows 8.1. Tried to move some files using my thumb drive and a message popped up saying something like the USB controller had exceeded its capabilities.

Is this a known issue with 8.1? Is there an update available that would fix this? All the same drives worked fine on Windows XP. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No, totally unrelated to the main issue at hand. Just sitting on this web page, the brightness drops slowly a tad a time or two then at a step at a time, for lack of a better way to describe it, it starts to brighten. It does not remain at a constant brightness level. I noticed this in some different programs too.

What am I looking for in the Event Viewer Logs as it pertains to the USB controller? That's if I can find the logs.

In Device Manager under W8.1, if you right click on the device and click on properties, you should see an Events tab. This should have an option to show you all events related to this device.

You can try an SMC reset and NVRAM reset to address screen brightness issues.

Hi,

I am pretty much giving up for a while I think. I am satisfied that all my drives and cables are good and went through the tests. Seems there is no limit as to how many drives I can connect on the iMac side. Currently, I have six external hard drives up and running and there is no issue if I add my flash drive to the mix.

My only issues are on the Windows side and I will just have to figure ways to work around that until such time there might be an update to address this power issue on the Windows side.
