How do I install/retrieve sysdiagnose?
I've been looking for diagnostic tools for my iMac, and I discovered this one this morning. Where is it? How do I retrieve it?

What are you trying to diagnose? Unless you are having problems, "diagnosing" would be, IMHO, a waste of time.
Barry
Launch the Terminal app and run it. It's a build-in Unix command.
27" i7 iMac (Mid 2011) refurb, OS X Yo (10.10.2), Mavs, ML & SL, G4 450 MP w/10.5 & 9.2.2
My immediate concern is the slowness of my computer; however, I also want a diagnostic tool for use in the future to find whatever problems might come my way, most of them, anyway. Maybe diagnostic programs haven't yet reached that level of sophistication, but In keep hoping.

Thanks, but that seems much too advanced for me. I suppose when I get to the Terminal site, I am supposed to type in "sydiagnose and the rest of the code, but i'm not sure, and I fear the consequences of typing the wrong thing. I've found that being adventurous is not wise with computers.
This site explains the procedure... and yes, terminal will allow you to completely destroy your system with a single command.
http://osxdaily.com/2014/07/29/sysdiagnose-mac-os-x-command/
The output of said command would be over the head of most users... it's like getting a book written in a language you don't understand... for good reason.
What you are probably looking for is this:
OS X Yosemite: Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test
It's not going to tell you that some add-on you installed to make Yosemite look like Windows 10 is hosing up your system, but it will probably tell you if your hard drive is on the fritz and the like.
Thanks, but I've already been there. These words :
"(If your Mac is from 2012 or earlier and has OS X v10.8.4 or earlier, use the system software disc or USB flash drive that came with your Mac." were taken from there. That's what I asked about. Anyway, you've convinced me not to venture into Terminal land. It's not for the liked of me.
Well this is a harmless and simple diagnostic tool that looks at what it being loaded into memory on your system. In a lot of cases it will find ad-ware that has been installed (also known as malware), identify software that shouldn't be installed (such as anti-virus software, performance software, and security software), identify if you are running with insufficient RAM for the OS you are running or insufficient disk space for say Time Machine usage. It points out some of the usual user implemented culprits that cause slowdowns.
Run the tool and post your results here. If we see something that is likely to cause problems (such as CleanMyMac and the like), we'll point it out to you. The tool itself will identify any ad-ware it finds. In a nutshell, it doesn't fix anything at all, it just does a quick inventory of what your system is loading into memory.
I'll do that. I did it a few months ago, but maybe something has changed. Maybe it will shed light upon my current problem, which is, connecting with the Internet. Here are the main points.
1. This morning I called Apple Support about the problem. They found that the Home address for Safari had become corrupted. When it was corrected, the problem was fixed, and I could then connect to the Internet with Safari.
2. It is now a problem again, although Safari's Home address is now correct.
3.This problem occurs from time-to-time, not always.
3.This problem occurs much, much more frequently with Safari than with other browsers.
4. When this problem occurs, the only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off and on, or to keep trying to make the connection.
5.When this problem occurs, I can't even get to Safari's Home page, but with Opera and Google Chrome, I get to their Home page but no further.
I've spent at least thirty minutes trying to get the EtreCheck report here, but I keep ending up with the following message on my screen:
There was an issue uploading your image. Please ensure the image file name only includes accepted characters (letters a-z, numbers 0-9, spaces, dashes or underscores), the image is an accepted file type (.jpg, .gif or .png,) and the image is smaller than 2 MB.
Tell me how to send you the report, and I'll do it.

Don't send an image. Run the app, copy & paste the contents into a reply window, and hit the reply button.
Here it is--I hope. You know, of course, that after after the report is finished, one of the two options given is to send it to Apple Support. That's different than the last time I sent an EtreCheck report. I guess the change was made in the cause of efficiency, but it doesn't seem to work out that way. Anyway, here it is, maybe.

I guess so, but I believe that it is very misleading. To me, it looks like it's a shortcut. One click here, and it will be posted in Apple Forum, but It's actually an extra step.
Then, send an e-mail to the developer at http://www.etresoft.com/support. He usually responds quickly.
After a quick glance, you have an astounding number of items in your Login items - that will slow down any startup to a crawl. Unless there is something that absolutely has to be running immediately, eliminate them.
Additionally, you appear to have a bunch of WD software installed. Your external hard drive does not need any software installed in order to function and it usually causes problems. If you have all that on an external drive, seriously consider erasing it, formatting it, and then starting over, especially since your last backup was in 2013?
Edit: as for a sysdiagnose, press the following keys at the same time: Shift-Control-Command-Option-Period until you see the file on your desktop. I would not be able to decipher the results, but I have done that and sent the result to Apple when requested.
How do I install/retrieve sysdiagnose?
