CD has no sound when played in stereo, but ok on iMac
I converted some mp4 files to aiff using iTunes on my iMac (I don't know the OS except it is V10, and it's one of the first year iMacs.) I then burned them to CD. When I put the CD in my stereo it "acts like" it's playing the CD, that is, the counter counts, but there is no sound coming out. Other CDs play fine on my stereo, and this CD plays fine in my iMac, but .... I want to play it in the stereo.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

There are only a few of us posting here
but I suspect that there are thousands of people out there suffering from this problem. I have called apple support, and e-mailed Apple, but no response is relevant or even intelligent. Gosh, is this the basis for a massive Class Action Suit? What fun! My main reason for getting an Apple was to effectively burn cds.
I will give the company a few more trys and then revert to a Dell.
Well... you are right about the support.
I was given a few apple web addresses that basically applied to the previous version of iTunes (3 and 4) or that I could call them and most liely have to pay for my time with the tech person.
I found a work around for this nightmare.
I put the errant disk into my other computer (a pc) and copied the disk. It works! But what a pain. I have to download the songs onto a cd (and find it won't work in my car ) but by copying the cd with another computer, somehow it makes the songs now play... on the newly copied cd.
I also went to "utilities" and "repair permissions"
This helped. I had to raise the speed up to 16x or over. The slower speeds would not work in my player.
The burn works ok except for one mysterious problem- the first track will not play. Go figure?
I even tried "music cd's" - no change.
the best bet is to burn the cd, copy it back into iTunes then burn the copy, preferably on another computer. Or, if we could find it, go back to iTunes 6.
I tried this workaround but the disks would not play. I burned the disks both in realplayer and the disk burner on my pc @ work. During this process,NTI CD & DVD-Maker came up with an error message: the format of file "01- Track 1.m4a" is not supported. Any ideas out there?
I wish I had a cure for this.
It worked perfectly on my Dell with two cd drives.
Realplayer asked which tracks I wanted to copy.
It then burned. Make certain that when you burn with Realplayer that you check "finalize disk".
I finally decided that it was the burner. It is only one year old. I find it very strange that all the problems started with iTunes 7.
I put in a Pioneer 111D. There is a patch (Patchburn.com) available online for free that makes it work very well with all mac applications and iTunes. The patch did not work with the burner that was originally installed in my G5.
I figured that the new burner cost only about $40 at OWC, I probably threw more disks away than that.
It's a very easy install.
I think there is something about the new iTunes that doesn't quite communicate with the burner. It most likely needs new firmware. I found no place to get new firmware for the old burner. Do you know what model burner you have? If it is a pioneer you can try to update it by downloading Patchburn.com
- go to the mac and system you have and download it. Try the patch and see if that helps. It apparently works on many brands, but not the one I had.
If that doesn't work...?
I tried using a Sony CD-R @ 4x burn speed and it worked. I don't consider this a fix as I have been using Memorex for three years with no problem. I am glad to have found a sort of fix.
I followed your suggestion and it worked! (using the Sony CD-R at 4x speed). Then, I noticed I may have inadvertently clicked on Burn Data Disc rather than Audio CD in my earlier burning sessions and that may have accounted for my home stereo system being unable to "read" the disc. So, I tried using another label (Fujifilm CD) and chose to burn "Maximum speed possible" not the 4X as I'd done previously. And this time the burn was a success, I could play the CD on the stereo. So, after complaining about the iTunes v. 7.0.2 it may be that I'd just chosen the wrong format as explained above. HTH
