java error, applet notinited

Hello,
I manage a few macs, and we use to scan using a printer/scanner on the network with a browser. From some computers (NOT ALL) the users receive an error "applet com.efi.appls.webtools.WebToolsApplet notinited". Is the same with Safari or Firefox. Anyone has any idea? (obviously all the macs are exactly the same, with mac os X 10.4.8, all upgrades done, Safari and Firefox last version).

The "applet" would refer to Java. For those machines affected:

Go to the Utilities folder>Java and select the Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings.app.
Clear the cache (cache panel), and restart the computer/Safari.

Post back with results.

Thank you for your prompt reply, Hawaiian_Starman, but nothing changed with both browsers - I tried to connect with Safari and Firefox.

In your Utilities>Java>J2SE5.0 folder, select Java Preferences.app.

Does the Java panel look like this for each machine?

If not, adjust the settings accordingly. Also, in the Security panel make sure there are no inconsistencies if site certificates are used.

ok, the preferences are as shown in your picture on both computers. I have also deleted the files "in special folder" and the only thing changed is that the error received now is applet notloaded instead of notinited.
Obviously the users can use another mac, so is not a big problem, but I can't really understand why 2 macs on 11 behave like this... 😟

One other thing to try:

Again, go to the Utilities folder>J2SE 5.0>Java Cache Viewer.app

Double-click. Remove anything listed in the cache viewer. Restart Safari.

A last strange thing: I checked on my mac: if I use Firefox, the applet loads correctly, if I use any other browser (Safari, Flock) the applet is "notloaded"...

Safari has more stringent page loading requirements than Firefox, which can lead to page loading inconsistencies between the two. If the web developer's code doesn't meet Safari's standards, the page won't load correctly. Whether Apple eases up on its requirements in future versions of Safari remains to be seen.
