I am trying to record a DVD using Full Screen Recording in Quick Time Player.
I am able to click the red button to get the screen recording but then the screen on the DVD Player goes grey.
The DVD isn't rights protected.
How do I get the DVD to play and record it?

The DVD Player screen can't be recorded with screen capture tools. It's just the way it works and the screen will always be grey.
Handbrake can't read all the DVD (as there is an error on it) but I can play it in full on DVD Player - hence trying to record full screen.
I didn't expect there to be any copyright protection - does the grey screen when trying to record with Quick Time suggest that it is protected?
Use Handbrake to "rip" the non copyright protected DVD to QuickTime formats. It's free.
Rather than DVD Player, try another application that plays DVDs. VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html) is one.
