To what does the pronoun "they" refer? How are you alphabetizing items in the folder.
Thanks for your reply Kappy!
When I try to save an email or any document and go the folder I want to save it in, the folder with the list of items & other folders does not appear in A to Z order. They are all mixed up and it takes time to try and find the folder within the folder to save. If I open the folder, they are in alphabetical order but not when I want to save to that folder.
If you want anything in alphabetical order in a Finder window, then you have to click on the Name column header to set the order. Doing that on one folder doesn't set the option for other folders.
I understand that Kappy. As I have said, if I open any folder, they are all in A-Z order. It's only when I save, say an email to a folder, the items within that folder are not A-Z. I have been on Macs for 18 years and never experienced this problem until a couple of months ago.
Sorry, I don't understand. All folder setups are individually set since Mavericks. Only sub-folders may inherit the settings of the parent folder provided you have the parent configured properly for what you want. For a sub-folder to inherit the parent's settings it must be created from within the parent folder.
If you click on that name column twice to reverse & forward sort again do they show correctly then?
I can open any folder on my Mac and the items are all in alphabetical order.
The only time a folder is out of order is when I save an item to any folder.
Thanks, what I was trying to sort out is if after you save a new file to that folder & it's out of order, is if sort backwards then forwards corrects that one problem? 🙂
Thanks for helping BDAqua
No it doesn't.
If I go to that folder afterwards, it is all in alphabetical order.
If I am working in Quickbooks, Mail or QuarkXpress and go to a folder from those programs the folder is out of order and I waste a lot of time
searching through the folder looking for what I want. This never used to be a problem until the last couple of months.
This is one of the strangest things I've heard, will ponder what it might be or what step to take next to isolate it.
If you would prefer to talk about this, give me your phone number. I have toll-free throughout North America.
In those apps, if you sort on Date Modified, does that change anything?
Yes, it will sort them in the dates they were modified.
I have tried something. I went to the finder, then all my files and asked it to sort all my files by name.
I'll see if that makes a difference. Will let you know. Thanks
Well, how's it going?
So far it looks like we are OK.
Mind you, I have not been on the computer much recently.
If the problem comes back I will let you know.
Thanks for your help.
