Devanagari & Transliteration

I'm looking for a Devanagari font that maps exactly the same it's
Transliterated counterpart. So if you type the letter 'a' or 'kha' it
will come out as 'a' or 'kha' in either Devanagari or
Transliteration. Therefore it would also correctly change over from
one to the other if you highlight text and change font. On top of
that if I learned to map out one font I would not need to learn the
other. Anyone know of any such thing?

For any one of you out there who are looking for the same thing I do know of a company that is working on this and claims to have one available within a month or so, if things are on schedule. Again for those of us who are even more particular it will map with Dvorak for a nominal fee.

Other than that if you have some general Sanskrit fonts in Devanagari or Transliteration that you can share that would be appreciated.

Also I will need the Devanagari Numbers (I just found this in the palette) the comma and the period
and other symbols we use like the dash (which I got from the roman palette), the underscore which I can't find and the apostrophes.

I also need the marks for swara like uddata etc. This is an underscore for the lower one and a vertical line above the vowel for the upper one.

And other thing like: () {} [ ] ? ! ~ `

Do you mean these?

If you are talking about stuff that is on the normal US keyboard, you just type it into Ukelele directly from there . The underscore is shift + hyphen: _. If you are talking about something else, let me know.

These are in Character Palette 0951-54, etc: ॑ ॒ ॒ ॓ ॔ । ॥

Yes I did, but as it turns out I'm just getting confused. I really only need the Roman numbers for transliteration, of course. I'll just type them in now that I know. This is great!

Will this layout go into the input menu and be just like the Devanagari-Dvorak layout you sent me? That would be great. And will it work in any Roman font or just select ones?

Did you want to send me the ॓ just like that or did something go wrong?

So I can somehow get to Character Palette 0951-54 and all those will work? How do I differenciate between the Character Palette that works for this from those that don't?

Yes, after you put it in Home/Library/Keyboard Layouts and logout/login, you should be able to check its box in system prefs/international/input menu and then select it in the "flag" menu.

Not all Roman fonts have all the characters. Earlier I gave you a list of fonts that might work best.

You can probably just copy/paste from Safari if you want. Everything you find in Character Palette 0901 - 0970 should work fine, dragging onto Ukelele or putting into the space you get when you double-click on a key. The things to avoid are anything you find in the range E000-F8FF.

I don't seem to understand how to find things in the
palette that are restricted to these variants.

What is it exactly that you need to find? 0951-54 are the Devanagari stress signs. They are independent characters. When inputting, you would type these after typing the character they are applied to: अ॒ अ॑ .

Feel free to email me with more details if necessary (tom at bluesky dot org).
