How do I fix a proxy error 502?

This is exact of what showed up on my computer.

"The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

The proxy server could not handle the request GET /wamvalidate.

Reason: Error reading from remote server"

Was this a problem with an external server or a locally hosted OS X Server? I am seeing it with a locally hosted server.

That's an error on the web server, not on your computer.
