wireless carplay
Hi - can anyone who has updated to iOS 8.3 confirm where the Wirless Carplay option is configured within Settings? It's supposed to be right under General, but I don't have it. Thanks.

Curiously enough, the official iOS 8.3 User Guide says nothing about wireless Carplay.

... I don't think the initial question is solved!
The question is which Carplay Stereo supports Wireless Carplay?
The other question is will wireless Carplay work with bluetooth only or does it need WLAN?
I own the Pioneer SPH-DA120 with FW 1.08
Pioneer Support could not tell/write me anything about wireless carplay ...
btw. I can't see any Carplay option in the iPhone!
You only see the Carplay Logo by connecting it.
Same Pioneer, same problem...where is wireless carplay?
Pioneer AVH-4100NEX here...same as you all, I can't figure out how to get CarPlay working wirelessly from my iPhone 6 on iOS 8.3. I think Apple let the cat out of the bag too soon, or maybe Pioneer and Alpine are just extremely slow to let us know that it's something they have to change to support it. The internets is way too slow in figuring this one out!
I got the following reply from an Alpine rep when asking about wireless CarPlay in the iLX-007:
We understand that Apple releases beta software to developers for the purpose of testing possible features for future software or hardware. Sometimes these features make it into official releases while other times, they may not.
Below is the link to the iOS 8.3 release notes and at this time there is still no mention of wireless Car Play.

We can assure you that Alpine and Apple have a strong relationship and will continue to work together to release products that create a great iPhone experience in the car.
It looks like the issue is with Apple, and that wireless CarPlay was not actually included with the iOS 8.3 release, despite all reports to the contrary. Which means we continue to wait to see if it will be part of iOS 8.4 or 9 or is just abandoned altogether. Hopefully it won't be the latter.
Thanks for pointing out the 8.3 release notes, guess we all should have done some research first. When TechCrunch, ZDNet, 9to5Mac, Engadget, etc all report that wireless support was added to CarPlay, you just kinda go with it! It must have been pulled out before the official release. That's the last time I'll trust the developer versions to see what will come out in GA.
Here's to hoping 8.4 has it, and that it is released soon. Back to my old-skool lightning cable for now. What is this, 2014?
For everyone with a current Pioneer, wireless carplay, when implemented, will not work on your 4000/4100NEX or SPHDA120. Pioneer did not future proof these headunits with any wifi chips. The ILX-007 does have a wifi chip so should be able to work in the future with wireless carplay.
You would think this feature would work over bluetooth, not Wifi.
I don't have high hopes for Pioneer. I have a 4000NEX that I bought over a year ago in anticipation of getting Carplay for it and ended up waiting at least 6 months for it to come out. Now that it is out, it's very buggy and often causes my phone to go on the fritz. A wireless option would be fantastic, but they also need to figure out all the bugs, which might be first on their list over the wireless connectivity.
I'm curious how well the Alpine unit works with Carplay. Anyone have any positive or negative feedback about it?
Hey
I have the Alpine iLx-700 EU version of this unit, it is stable, bug free from my last 2 weeks use since fitting, never crashes BUT no wireless capability, it has been confirmed by numerous sources that the unit is built with a wifi chip for connectivity, but that a firmware update would be required to activate it. Since Carplay in the iPhone is not yet wireless, this would make some sense, but as of today, the announcement that Carplay will be wireless that could change very soon.

By very soon, I think you mean with the release iOS 9 - this fall.
It's all there in iOS 8.4, although the wifi was in 8.3 it was never really touted, now it is in 8.4...! I may of misheard though, i was half asleep... 😉
My understanding is it was delayed to iOS 9. Fall isn't that far away at my age.
My mistake, i went back and watched again...! 71.30ish in the keynote, in iOS9 they are pulling the plug...! SO it gives some time for the aftermarket players to get there act together then... But the Alpine most definitely has the capability...!
