I have the same thing happened to my desktop Mac after upgrading the operating system.
The only think I could attribute this to, is that Steve Jobs is no longer with us and there is no one at the top demanding that these things do not happen. What used to take less than 30 secs now takes almost 2 mins. Unacceptable. May as well go back to Windows.
Same for me. Especialy the time between the tune and the login. I am using FileVault by the way.
Same for me with a MBPr 13" 2015 ..
Edit : I am using FileVault too.
Maybe the topic should be moved to the Yosemite forum ?
Is it just the first boot, or EVERY boot?
every!!!! Every boot is longer then before
Did you backup your system before installing?
Have you made sure all your software is known to be 10.10.3 compatible?
Do you have photos that were in iPhoto that have not been converted to the new Photos App?
YGuess, I did
yes, I have
i have no idea, I've just installed the os update
I had the same problem, and after resetting the SMC and PRAM everything is back to normal. If you don't know how to do these steps, here are the links:
PRAM: OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
SMC: Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
I hope this solves your problem!

Same here, and could note that from Maverick to Yosemite everything got slower. my MBP 16GB 512GB SSD is nearly as fast starting than my DELL Latitude with 128SSD! Before it was fast now just getting slower, what makes me think that I'll not get installed any next download.
Anyone has tried reinstall Yosemite, does it improve?
My 13 macbook air early 2014 got the same problem too. it's taking to long to boot. i am wondering if i should download OS X from app store and reinstall in on my mac
Open System Preferences, select Startup Disk, and make sure your internal drive is selected as the startup disk. Then click restart!
This worked for me, personally with the same issue.
Good luck!
Thank you, It solve my problem!🙂
Thanks, this work for me too!
I've change the default name of my HD, so I suppose the update of 10.10.3 had problems relocating the HD with the new name. I only say this, because another app that updated before I installed the Yosemite update, needed to locate the HD, before it would open.
This worked for me
Thank you, this also worked for me!
